Kids Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu

Leverage, control and problem-solving — built for kids.

Overview

About Kids Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu

Kids Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu teaches children to control and defend using leverage and technique rather than size or strength — a confidence-builder that works for every body type.

Through games, drills and supervised rolling, kids develop coordination, focus and resilience on the mat. Gi and No-Gi classes run through the week, with a competition track for keen young grapplers.

It is also the least alarming martial art to put a child into, and the numbers say so: no strikes are thrown, so the worst outcome of a bad exchange is being stuck underneath somebody until you work out how to get free. Children spend the hour solving that problem over and over, and the sport is essentially a physical argument that they are allowed to lose safely.

That is why it is the busiest thing on our youth timetable by a distance. Gi classes wear the traditional uniform and reward patient grip-fighting; No-Gi is faster and closer to wrestling. Most kids do both without ever being asked to choose, and the ones who catch the competition bug have a stream to move into when they are ready.

Why train Kids Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu

What You’ll Get

01

Losing Safely, Repeatedly

A child will have their position taken dozens of times an hour, reset and go again. Few things at that age offer that much low-stakes practice at being beaten and carrying on.

02

Size Stops Mattering

Leverage and technique are the whole sport. Being the smallest in the room turns from a disadvantage into a reason to get better at the details.

03

A Problem, Not A Drill

Rolling is live problem-solving against someone who is also thinking. It holds attention in a way that repeating a movement to a count never does.

04

No Strikes At All

For a parent weighing up martial arts for the first time, this is usually the deciding fact. Nothing in the class involves hitting anybody.
