Why there are 17 of them
Most gyms have one name on the wall and a lot of assistants. We have 17 coaches across 10 disciplines, and the person taking your Tuesday class is not standing in for anybody.
Sandy Tsagouris was the first female boxing champion in Canada and fights at 17–2 as a professional. Mike Imperato is a BJJ black belt with 13 professional wins, nine of them first-round finishes, and has never been finished himself. Sanjit Chhoker spent nine years living and training in Thailand across a thirty-year Muay Thai career and more than a hundred professional fights. Nick Luchkin was a 2024 National Judo Champion and has competed in over a hundred tournaments since he was seven.
Every one of those is written up on their own card below, with the record attached. We would rather you checked than took our word for it.
What that means on the floor
A wall of records can read as a warning if you have never trained. It should read as the opposite.
Someone with a hundred professional fights has been bad at this, badly beaten, and injured. That is precisely why they are unbothered by your first lesson, and why they can see what is going wrong before you feel it.
Competing and teaching are different jobs, and we hire for both. Bernard Sanchez was named Toronto District School Board Coach of the Year and built West Humber into a top-three wrestling programme in Ontario — that is a coaching record, not a fighting one.
Five Muay Thai coaches and three wrestling coaches is not redundancy. It means the person teaching your takedowns has spent their life on takedowns rather than covering a class outside their sport.
The overwhelming majority of people here will never compete, and the coaches know it. Juan Carlos Vargas Torres has produced 32 national champions; he also teaches beginners how to fall over safely on a Tuesday night.
