MMA Program
The ground game — leverage and technique over size and strength.
Overview
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu traces back to Kodokan Judo and traditional Japanese jujitsu, carried to Brazil in the early 1900s and reshaped by the Gracie family into a system built entirely around one idea: a smaller, weaker person can control and submit a bigger, stronger opponent through leverage, timing and technique rather than force. That principle is why BJJ is considered one of the most reliable martial arts for real self-defense, and why it became the backbone of modern MMA’s ground game.
The art is organized around a positional hierarchy — guard, side control, mount, back control — where every technique either advances your position or sets up a finish. Submissions fall into two broad families: joint locks that hyperextend or twist a limb (armbars, kimuras, triangles) and chokes that restrict blood or air flow (rear-naked choke, guillotine, cross-collar choke). Learning to move fluidly between positions, recognize when a submission is actually available, and escape from bad spots is the whole game.
A typical class opens with movement drills and technique instruction — your coach breaks down a specific position or sequence and you drill it repeatedly with a partner until it starts to feel automatic. From there, most classes move into positional sparring (starting from a specific spot and working the exchange) and live rolling, where you apply everything against a fully resisting partner at a pace matched to your experience level.
Because there’s no striking involved, BJJ is one of the more approachable combat sports to start as an adult — you can train hard, get a real workout, and test yourself against training partners without absorbing punches or kicks. It builds functional grip and core strength, sharpens problem-solving under pressure, and teaches humility fast: everyone taps, including your coach, and that’s part of how you learn. We run Gi and No-Gi classes all week, plus Competition, Teen and Kids programs — from your very first roll to the podium.
Why train Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu
Built specifically so technique and leverage can overcome size and strength — not theory, tested constantly through live sparring.
A full combat-sport workout without absorbing punches or kicks, making it one of the most approachable arts to start as an adult.
Every roll is a live puzzle against a resisting opponent — sharpening focus and composure that carries off the mat.
Beginner, Competition, Teen and Kids classes run all week, so there’s always a class that matches where you are.
