Boxing

The Sweet Science — footwork, head movement and power.

Overview

About Boxing

Boxing’s modern rules were codified in 19th-century England, but the core contest — land clean punches, avoid being hit in return — is one of the oldest tests in combat sports. What makes it “the Sweet Science” is how much strategy hides inside such a simple ruleset: every fighter is solving a live puzzle of range, timing and angles, four punches (jab, cross, hook, uppercut) at a time.

Defense is just as technical as offense. Slipping, rolling, blocking and parrying all let you stay in punching range without eating clean shots, and elite footwork — staying balanced, cutting angles, controlling distance — is often what separates a good boxer from a great one. None of it works without conditioning: boxing rounds are built around short, explosive output followed by brief recovery, over and over, which is exactly why boxers are famous for having some of the best cardio in sports.

Classes build these skills in layers. You’ll shadowbox to groove technique on your own, work mitts with a coach who calls combinations and corrects your form in real time, hit the heavy bag to build power and stamina, and drill footwork patterns that make everything else possible. More experienced members can work into controlled sparring to test what they’ve learned against a partner.

Because it’s built entirely around fundamentals — stance, jab, movement — boxing is one of the most beginner-friendly combat sports to pick up, while still offering enough depth to keep sharpening for years. It’s a phenomenal cardio and full-body workout even if you never spar a single round. Beginner, Women’s-Only and invite-only Sparring classes run throughout the week.
