Kickboxing

K-1 striking — boxing hands with powerful kicks.

Overview

About Kickboxing

Kickboxing emerged in the mid-20th century as fighters and promoters in Japan, the US and Europe began blending Western boxing with kicking arts like karate and Muay Thai, eventually formalizing into competitive formats like K-1. The result plays like boxing with a much bigger toolkit — the same crisp hand combinations, now paired with kicks that can land from the shin, knee-height, or head level.

Compared to Muay Thai, most kickboxing styles keep more distance and rely less on the clinch, favoring boxing-style footwork and fluid combinations that string punches and kicks together in the same sequence. That makes it a natural next step if you enjoy boxing but want more tools, or a great entry point into striking if the clinch-heavy game of Muay Thai feels like too much at first.

Class structure mirrors boxing’s round-based format — pad work and bag rounds where your coach calls out combinations, shadow rounds to groove technique, and conditioning intervals that build the explosive power kicks demand. Because kicks recruit your whole body, from hips to core to shoulders, kickboxing tends to deliver a more total-body burn than punching alone.

It’s known for being one of the most accessible high-intensity workouts in the building — fast-paced, varied, and genuinely fun, whether your goal is fitness, stress relief, or building toward real striking competency. Classes run all week and are built to work for first-timers and experienced strikers training in the same room.
